instrumental music made in the final hours before the compo end
1 instance of Tyrell6 – pad
1 instance of Elec7ro – analog chimes
2 instances of analog piano – bass arp and other arp
1Β instance of Neo Piano – lead
the percussion pack – electro drum kit
pretty raw made in a hurry but yeah. π
A fine chill-out tune! For me it doesn’t sound raw at all.
Thanks man. Well you know, there’s always more polishing to add to either the sound production or composition when you do it fast. Thanks for being positive to it. π
I like the general vibe of it too. I made a mastered version on my soundcloud with the same sounds but with my preferred effects for reverb and compression. It makes it more full.
Happy new year!
It’s pretty nice. Some snowy feel to it π I didn’t get taken with the tune that much though, and the bassline was a little repetitive.
Thanks for your feedback. π I agree its a bit sparse in general. A mastered version helped with the sound but I didn’t change the composition. Cheers!
I think this is pretty good for only a few hours before the compo! Wish I could track that fast, my entries take me weeks 0_0. It has a cool (hah no pun intended) wintery feel, and the ‘paddy’ drums are lovely. The piano section at the end is really nice too, I would have liked to hear more like that. Merry Christmas / Happy New Year!
Harmony π
Thanks Harmony! π I agree it is a bit short thanks for expressing interest in hearing more. I don’t mind to do these happier vibe tunes sometimes.
Happy new year!
Very good and original, the song is like a little “adventure” on its own. Great variations and arrangement! I can hear we used a similar element of a bell + pad in our entries this round, lol. My only criticism is the kick & snare sounds, which seems not to fit very well to me somehow although these elements help bring forward the originality of the whole thing. And maybe some more bass/low-end would be nice to bring in some warmth and contrast to the other “cooler” instruments. Either way, I’m impressed as you did all this in such small amount of time and personally it’s my favourite this round. I’ve already listened to it a few times during the Hollidays. π
Good continuation! As we say in Sweden. π
Thanks Chris. These are good suggestions and also thanks for liking the song! π
A couple points because I value your input and ‘second set of ears’, if you have a chance to go to my sound cloud and hear the tape mastered version, I am curious if you think this warmed it up enough and brought out the bass more? (it often does and should).
I also see you point regarding the beats seeming to mismatch with the rest of the ‘style’. I can concede that point. However, normally I do not set out to make music that a band would actually play… so if it sounds more like made by drum machines and arpeggiators than real people, than I am OK with that as my intention. But humanizing is good too with some natural phrasing. I think if I were to change anything first (besides what I already did to the mix on the SC version), I might take RS232’s suggestion to heart and make the bass line more interesting with a little less rehashed arpeggiated phrasing and maybe some more human notes composed in there too.
I only have access to headphones now (the same pair I’ve mentioned before at some point), but yes the SC-version sounds slightly better/warmer afaict. I like the style of the bass, so maybe it just could’ve been boosted a bit around 90-120 hz (just a hunch). If you ask me, I’m neither with or against RS232 regarding this.
Regarding the drums I agree, I love programmed drums. It was just the sounds themselves I was thinking of. Or maybe it could – just like the bass – been just have been mixed differently and then I wouldn’t have thought about it. No humanizing, or something like that.
Oh, and – I’m sure you know this but – we’re on a minor/detailed level of feedback-level now. And having said that, I can surely point out 5-10 different things for improvement regarding my own entry as well. π
Thanks for the additional feedback mang! π Appreciate your effort. (and yeah no worries on low-level details. thx for the disclaimer :D) p.s. i think it would be interesting to try with a different snare, etc. too.
I’m surprised those Roland pianos weren’t more common. It makes me think of it as a regular person’s RMI Electra Piano. I guess when it was available there were all kinds of home organs and Casio products out there.
You used it to great effect against the acoustic piano and other instruments.
Thanks man, appreciate your feedback. And nice tip on the RMI Electra Piano. π
