This was supposed to be Goa-trance style, but I think it may have ended out into some different kind of EDM genre. I had to render the vsti to instrument for this round as it was being a bit of a CPU hog running under wine. Ended out using a lot less of the C64 stuff than I was originally planning!

A fun little tune – Good work! Thanks for sharing, and here’s my personal reflections while listening:
– I’d prefer more of the effects be a bit more toned down in volume and more panned to the left/right. The whole thing is a bit too much mono to me.
– The song could be mixed a bit more generally, as it feels a bit dry right now. It was almost like listening to a Fastracker II song, especially at the beginning.
However, drunk on the dancefloor I’d dance to this anyway. š
Thanks Chris – helpful feedback!
I hope the “creativity through limitation” of having to render obxd helped more than it hindered.
The composition is quite nice with good choice of sounds. It has good structure and pacing. I enjoyed all the sounds and noises. That blip at 2:50 is awesome before your lead comes in. I don’t know my genres but it probably did becomes some kind of edm. I like the strings at 3:19, but I do wonder if them or something could have the awesome sound of your strings in your last song? Easier to mix with less parts though. š All in all, I would say this is quite the cool tune that has a nice weighty character to it on repeat listen. Good job! Looking forward to the next one. š
great dancefloor track! for listening only it gets a bit boring. the sounds are very well done. I would suggest some harmonic variations. By the way, who is Siva?
Hi Ahornberg – thanks! Yes I guess these things do get repetitive/boring – although I generally quite like that aspect of dance music – particularly if I am using it for background music. I have never really learned all the cliches from the different subgenres of dance music though – and I am trying to build up my repertoire in that respect. Risers and high pass filters have been the main things I have got in so far, which I haven’t really used in my tracks before. More listening and practice needed (although I guess it might get boring for people listening!).
Maybe next time I will do some jazz or something to keep things interesting/varied!
Siva is one spelling of the Hindu God Shiva (hinting at the Goa connection).
Damn – comments going missing again.
I had a long thing about dance music and my attempts to learn the cliches from different genres. Seems to have disappeared into the ether.
Siva is another spelling of Shiva (Hindu god).
Memory may escape but I think Goa favors more distortion and such; if I’m correct, or even if I’m not, you can build and relieve the distortion amounts as a tension generator.
